Dr. Meg-John Barker is a writer, therapist, and activist-academic specializing in sex, gender and relationships. Meg John is a senior lecturer in psychology at the Open University and a UKCP accredited psychotherapist, and has over a decade of experience researching and publishing on these topics including non-monogamous relationships, kink, counseling, and mindfulness, as well as co-editing the journal Psychology & Sexuality. They were the lead author of The Bisexuality Report and they are involved in running many public events on sexuality and relationships, including Sense about Sex, Critical Sexology, and Gender & Sexuality Talks. Meg-John is a UKCP accredited therapist working with gender and sexually diverse clients. In addition to their many academic books, they have now written several books for the general public including Rewriting the Rules (Routledge, 2013), The Secrets of Enduring Love (Penguin RandomHouse, forthcoming 2016), and Enjoy Sex (Icon Books, forthcoming 2017). Ich hab das Buch über meine Freundin kennengelernt, mir gleich mal ausgeliehen und mittlerweile selbst schon mit sehr guter Resonanz verschenkt :) Es bietet einen tollen Einstieg in "Queer Theory" und mir gefallen die tollen Illustrationen sehr gut. Man muss keine Vorkenntnisse haben, es wird super anschaulich und verständlich erklärt. Queer Theorie an sich befasst sich im Wesentlichen mit dem Hinterfragen von Kategorien, insbesondere Schwarz-Weiß-Unterscheidungen (z.B. das ist typisch männlich, das typisch weiblich; dieses ist nur gut, jenes nur schlecht). Das wunderbare ist, dass man die Ideen aus dem Buch weit über das Thema hinaus immer wieder sinnvoll gebrauchen kann. Queer Theory ist bisweilen ziemlich provokant, denn wie viele Ideen aus der Soziologie besteht sie aus neuen Gedanken, die nicht alle gleich wissenschaftliche Rückendeckung haben. Einige richten sich sogar direkt gegen das, was wir glauben und was unser Weltbild und unseren Zeitgeist ausmacht. Daher ist umso besser, wie der Stand der Wissenschaft in Bezug auf diese Theorien auch wiedergegeben wird, wie Forschung und Entwicklung in diesem ungewöhnlichen Feld gezeigt werden. Viele bekannte Philosoph*innen und Autor*innen kommen zu Wort, aber es ist definitiv kein textlastiges Buch; die Autor*innen machen einen außergewöhnlich guten Job im pointierten Zusammenfassen auch schwierigen Materials. Insgesamt kann glaube ich jeder von einer kritischen Lektüre dieses Buches profitieren, denn die Ideen und Ansätze sind so radikal wie universell, und bei genauerem Hinsehen verdienen sie zumindest eine aufgeschlossene Prüfung. Insbesondere ist es nicht nur ein Buch für Menschen mit Soziologie- oder Queer-Hintergrund. Es mangelt auch nicht an lustigen, komischen, überspitzten und bissigen Passagen, bei denen sich sicher viele mal wiedererkennen. Klare 5***** und da ich mein letztes Exemplar verschenkt hab, muss ich es wohl nochmal kaufen. Wie gut, dass es erschwinglich ist!
This book was a reccomendation of a friend. Although the topic itself and the underlying theories may be difficult to understand, the author and illustrator present it in a very simplistic but fun way. I think I have not learned as much about LGBTQ+ history in the last 5 semesters of university. Absolute reccomendation
Selten so ein gute graphic guide gelesen! Die Inhalte sind leicht verständlich und die Grafiken wirklich hübsch und gut erklärend. Eindeutige Kaufempfehlung!
